Practices this evening

We are recommending that all practices are cancelled this evening due to the impending weather system that is supposed to move through. At this point the system is going to be in the area around 6 p.m., however even if it hits later than that it is expected to be much more severe than the recent rain storms that have come through the area.

Club policy: All fields must be cleared at the first sight/sound of lightning/thunder and must remain cleared for 30 minutes after the last incident.

Game recap: U14 SWVA Elite Girls vs CVU

U14 SWVA Elite Girls vs CVU

Final Score 3:1

The SWVA Elite U14 Girls hosted CVU on Sunday, September 15th. The team, playing under the NRU umbrella, is comprised of 22 players from Christiansburg Soccer Club, New River United and Radford Soccer Club, and is coached by Erin Lycan, VT women’s assistant coach, and assisted by B.J. Flack (NRU) and Jason Mahugh (CSC). In the first half, the CVU girls found some early chances on goal while SWVA sorted out their defensive shape, bending but never breaking, and while the latter part of the half was played fairly evenly the first half ended scoreless. In second half, SWVA gained majority of possession, while allowing few chances on goal defensively, and the girls went up early in the half on a converted penalty by Morgan Mullens. A few minutes later, Simonne Guenette got behind the CVU defense on the right flank and sent a lovely cross to Morgan Mullens, who banged it home with one touch to put the girls up 2-0. Later in the half, Emily Southern scored to make it 3-0. CVU converted a chance in the closing minutes, and the girls ended up with a 3-1 win. In addition to the goal scorers, special play was also provided by Tori Shimozono and Taylor Spence in the midfield. The future looks bright for the SWVA Elite 99 Girls squad as they begin their first season of Skyline play together.
