Recreation League Outreach

With practices currently going on for Recreation League U8 and up and PreK and Kindergarten starting at the end of this week, we want to make sure all questions are being answered, especially from our volunteer coaches. We are currently working on the clothing and equipment distribution plan and details will be forthcoming soon. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please reply on this post or on the Facebook page. If you have a question, you likely aren’t the only one, so please go ahead and ask. Thanks!

Recreation league equipment and practice requirements

We have had many questions regarding what equipment is needed for each Recreation league age level, what practices look like, especially for our newest CSC families involved in PreK/K levels. This post tries to answer that for each age group. Please note that CSC will be distributing a pair of T-shirts (grey and blue) and a pair of socks (blue) for each player to coaches to distribute to teams. Coaches will also be provided with equipment needed for their team’s age level.

Please see two links: the Division Guidelines and Rec Game Guides . These are the first two resources for finding out particulars such as rules, field dimensions, and equipment requirements.

PreK/K: Families must provide shin guards. Cleats are optional — any athletic shoes are fine. Size 3 ball is required, but if you don’t have one, CSC can provide one for you. CSC will provide pop up goals (PUGs) and cones for coaches. Field size is approximately 20 yards by 30 yards. PreK/K meet once per week (Friday evening for K, Saturday morning for PreK) and play at least 45 minutes. Each team occupies one half field for 20-30 minutes for a practice. This is the time for those fun silly games that keep kids interested moreso than drills. At the end of the practice period the two coaches sharing a field will play a 4v4 game against each other for at 15-30 minutes. Use substitutions often. Play in a rough diamond shape (one forward, one left, one right, one defender) with no goalkeeper. Coaches referee games and roll the ball back into play when it goes out. No goal kicks, corner kicks, or throw-ins. No heading. No standing in the goal. Discourage handballs. Kids will all cluster around the ball and that is OK at this age. More information in the Pre-K Game Guide and K Game Guide .

U8: Families provide shin guards and cleats. A size 3 ball is required, but if you don’t have one, CSC can provide one for you. CSC will provide a pair of 6′ x 12′ goals at each U8 field. Field size is approximately 25 yards x 40 yards. Teams practice one weekday evening and then play games on Saturdays. Schedules still in the works. Coaches design practices and referee games with more emphasis on rules as compared to PreK and K levels. Play 4v4 with no goalkeeper, paying attention to keep players out of the crease/goal box to allow for offensive opportunity. Much more information in the U8 Game Guide

U10: Families provide shin guards and cleats. A size 4 ball is required, but if you don’t have one, CSC can provide one for you. CSC will provide a pair of 6′ x 18′ goals at each U10 field. Field size is approximately 40 yards by 60 yards. Teams practice one weekday evening and then play games on Saturdays. Schedules still in the works. Coaches design practices. Independent referees are assigned to games. Even more emphasis on proper rules as compared to U8. Play 7v7 with a goalkeeper. Referee discretion for calling penalties due to things like handballs, headers, offsides, fouls, etc. Please see the U10 Game Guide for more information.

U13: Families provide shin guards, cleats, and a size 5 ball. CSC will provide a pair of 6′ x 18′ goals at each U13 field. Field size is approximately 50 yards by 80 yards. Teams practice one weekday evening and then play games on Saturdays. Schedules still in the works. Coaches design practices. Independent referees are assigned to games. Even more emphasis on proper rules as compared to U10. Play 9v9 with a goalkeeper. Referees more likely to call offenses. Please see the U13 Game Guide for more information.

U18: Families provide shin guards, cleats, and a size 5 ball. CSC will provide a pair of 6′ x 20′ goals at each U18 field. Field size is approximately regulation 11v11 size. Teams practice one weekday evening and then play games on Saturdays. Schedules still in the works. Coaches design practices. Independent referees are assigned to games. Top emphasis on proper rules according to international standards. Play standard 11v11 with a goalkeeper. There’s no CSC game guide for this, however, resources such as the IFAB Laws of the Game can be consulted.

Spring 2022 Season Registration!

CSC Friends! It’s that time again! Time to register for the Spring 2022 soccer season. Please visit and click on “Register & Account Access” on the menu (upper left side on desktop, “pancake” stack on upper right side on mobile), then choose the item in the sub-menu that best fits your needs (Recreation, Academy, Travel, or Volunteer).

As a reminder, Recreation level soccer is offered from ages PreK through U18. You will choose the organization level for your child during registration. If you have used SportsEngine before, please take care to notice which child the system is trying to register. For example, if last year your 10-year-old played but this season she doesn’t want to play but your 8-year-old does, then the system will automatically have a profile for your last-season player. You will need to choose the option for a new player and complete it accordingly. If you have two parents / guardians that would like to be informed of things, please fill out sections for both parent / guardians. Please also take time to fill out the sections for requested teammates, coaches, and days you cannot practice. Filling out these sections as accurately as possible during registration makes things easier when it comes time to build rosters. Finally, you have the option to use your last year’s Rec jerseys or request new ones if your child needs a bigger size, jersey is in disrepair, etc.

For Academy level soccer, if your child was on last year’s team you will need to re-register using the Academy link please. If your child was not on Academy last season, and the child is U10 level (roughly ages 9-10, third and fourth grade, with exceptions), and you wish to find out more information about CSC Academy, please email us at prior to registration. We are in the process of evaluating participation and may be reaching out to some CSC members regarding player and coach recruitment.

Registration is still a work in progress for Travel level soccer. We have contact information for returning players and we will be in contact soon. Rosters will remain largely the same as during the Fall season, so this is not anticipated to be an issue.

Coaches and managers please re-register using the volunteer link, even if you did so last season. We appreciate your continuing support!

Recreation Fall 2021 Games — Updated!

Please read carefully as there has been an update to this post!

Last update Wednesday September 8th 2:45 PM.

First week:

K Sessions –  Friday Sept 10, 6 PM, Christiansburg Middle School

Pre-K Sessions Saturday Sept 11, 10:15 AM, Christiansburg Middle School

U8-U13 Games Saturday Sept 11 Morning (see schedules below and/or coch for specifics, U10 and U13 still in flux due to referee scheduling)

U18 Games TBD

For Pre-K and K divisions, families, please come to CMS about 15 minutes before your scheduled session. This will give you time to meet up with a CSC representative at the gate, receive jerseys*, and a size 3 ball if your child needs one. Please make sure children are properly wearing shin guards underneath long socks. Coaches will meet up with a CSC representative to receive equipment such as cones and pop-up goals and will keep them throughout the season and turn them in following the week 8 session. *Please note that in most cases coaches have picked up a bundle of jerseys for their team, or will be able to pick up a bundle of jerseys for their team. However, due to accommodations and other roster changes there will undoubtedly be situations where teams have too few or too many jerseys. Please turn in extras to the CSC representative and please see the CSC representative if you need jerseys. On the schedules below, each field number has two teams listed. There will be flags placed in the ground with numbers to help orient families to the correct field. Teams listed as “Home” should have their children slip on the grey jersey and teams listed as “Away” should have their children slip on the blue jersey. Coaches will lead drills and mini-games for half the session and then the two teams sharing a field will play each other in a game with coaches as referees. Please see the game guides for more details on division rules.

For U8 boys and girls, your schedules include fields and times. Teams please look the schedule over and let us know if you find any errors. Coaches, please make sure to communicate with families in case of any changes.

For U10 and U13 boys, girls, and coed, your schedules will come soon. Please communicate with coaches for exact details. We are depending on other agencies to help supply referees and fields and we may have to change things with short notice. Coaches can add and edit events into SportsEngine to help manage this effort. In the event of a change be sure to follow the CSC website and social media for last minute changes. We will notify whole teams if the schedule changes.

For U18, we are still working on finding games for you in the local area. Please contact CSC if you wish to use a Saturday as an extra practice day or inter-squad scrimmage and we will help coordinate assigning field space.

For all levels: It is always best every week to bring both color jerseys to practice in case there is a miscommunication or too few / too many players on a team to play. This will save you the trouble of having to run back home when you find out your team is “home” and not “away” or vice versa!

Please contact us with any questions or concerns!

Please find your age section below for more details.
